Man behaving strangely — running in and out of Arlington highway lanes — is struck, killed
A 22-year-old man was on Sunday struck and killed by a car when he ran from an Arlington highway shoulder into its lanes with police officers present.
The man was hit about 12:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 near Fielder Road.
Police arrived before the pedestrian was struck because drivers reported seeing a man behaving strangely, running in and out of the lanes and swinging his arms at vehicles, Arlington police said.
Officers found the man along the highway’s shoulder and tried to speak with him. He appeared to be paranoid and showed signs that he was possibly under the influence of drugs, police said.
As the officers tried to get the man to safety, he ran onto the highway and was struck by an eastbound 2013 Ford Mustang, police said. Its driver stopped, was not injured and will not be charged in connection with the collision, police said.
The pedestrian, whose name the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
A backpack the man was carrying held vape pens, THC edibles, canisters and marijuana, police said.
