Big Tex’s boots are worn out after the 2025 State Fair of Texas season. So now, he’ll need a new, fresh pair for the next three years.

That’s where you come in.

Texans can now submit their own creative design for Big Tex’s size 96 Lucchese boots.

“Big Tex can’t just wear any pair of boots. His boots must be iconic and as grand as Texas itself,” according to the State Fair of Texas.

Fans have until Jan. 31, 2026, to submit their designs. The winner will be announced on March 2.

How to enter Big Tex’s boot design contest

To enter in Big Tex’s boot design competition, contestants must create an original design on the provided boot templates. Each contestant can only submit one design.

Entrants must fill out a form with their contact information and answer a few questions about why they wanted to enter and the inspiration behind their art.

To find the form, visit the State Fair’s website at BigTex.com. Once the form is completely filled out, contestants must print it out and mail it to:

Big Tex boot design guidelines

There are a few rules in this Big Tex boots rodeo.

  • Designs must be a drawing, illustration or a painting.
  • The boot vamp and heel are already designed by the State Fair of Texas and Lucchese. The Lucchese brand logo must be incorporated in each design. Contestants must submit designs for all templates — front, back and sides.
  • All designs must be original. No copyrighted art is allowed.
  • Keep it clean. “Designs unbecoming of the Lucchese and State Fair of Texas brand will not be considered,” according to the State Fair of Texas.
  • Only one entry per person.
