A man whose remains were found at a creek in Tarrant County in 2023 has been identified using DNA technology, according to a news release from the DNA lab Othram in The Woodlands.

The man, Greg Willer Reichert, was born on April 10, 1948, and died at the age of 75, the release states. His body was found in November 2023 by people walking along a creek bed in Tarrant County. Police found a T-shirt, a pair of Hanes socks and a cap with “Mrs. Baird’s” printed on the front, alongside his body, the release stated.

Reichert’s details were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System in May 2024, according to the release.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office sent forensic evidence to Othram’s laboratory, to identify the man in the summer of 2024. Othram scientists extracted DNA from the material and created a genome sequence they used to search genealogical databases.

Investigators identified the remains as Reichert after finding his relatives with help from Othram’s forensic genealogy team, according to the release. Riechert was known to be missing, and was last known to be in Texas.

The identification of Reichert is the 20th case in Texas where officials have publicly identified an individual using Othram technology, according to the release.

“People should know there is technology here today that works, and it may be able to bring answers to a lot of families — like in this case,” Kristen Mittelman, chief development officer for Othram, said in the release. “Families deserve to know what happened to their loved ones.”
