Fort Worth church pastor arrested on sexual assault charge, denies allegations
The pastor of a Fort Worth church was arrested Sunday on a sexual assault charge, court and police records show.
Alonzo Diego Fuller, the 39-year-old pastor at Journey Fort Worth Church, was arrested by Fort Worth police in connection to an alleged sexual assault offense that occurred on June 15, according to Tarrant County district court records.
According to a statement that the church posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Fuller “categorically denies” the allegations, which were made by a former parishioner.
Fuller and his wife started the Fort Worth church in July 2022, according to the church’s website.
“Pastor Diego fully supports and welcomes a thorough investigation by the criminal justice system and looks forward to clear his name,” the church’s elders said in their statement. “He remains committed to transparency and truth as the legal process moves forward.”
Fuller will continue to lead the church’s congregation and fulfill his responsibilities as the pulpit minister, church officials said.
Fuller wants to assure the church community that there is “absolutely no validity to these claims,” the statement reads.
A Fort Worth police spokesperson said that police were unable to release further details of the allegations on Wednesday because of the sensitive nature of the case.
Fuller was released from the Tarrant County Jail on Monday on a $40,000 bond.
“We look forward to the opportunity for our side of the story to be presented to the public,” said defense attorney Bret Martin, who is representing Fuller.
“All the (community) support has been very positive,” Martin said. “Everyone has 100% confidence in Pastor Fuller and responses have been overwhelmingly positive.”
