This Blue Bell ice cream flavor was mislabeled, recalled in Texas. What to know
Those who have tree-nut allergies need to pay attention to the most recent ice cream recall that affects Texas residents.
For those who buy large tubs of Blue Bell Ice Cream, be weary of 64-ounce containers of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream. This is not the flavor you think you’re buying.
Blue Bell announced Monday, Aug. 25 that these recalled products were manufactured in Brenham, Texas and shipped to Walmart, Kroger and Target stores around the state.
Here’s what you need to know.
Which Blue Bell ice cream flavor was recalled?
Blue Bell Ice Cream recalled Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream that got packaged in a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough carton.
“The recalled product was mistakenly packaged in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream cartons with a Moo-llennium Crunch lid,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled containers are labeled with lot No. 061027524 on the lid. They went out to 16 states, including Texas.
Why was Blue Bell ice cream recalled?
The reason it is recalled is because the Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream is not in its normally labeled containers.
This is concerning because Blue Bell’s Cookie Dough ice cream does not contain tree nuts. However, the Moo-Ilennium Crunch flavor contains almond, walnut and pecan.
Customers who are allergic to tree nuts (walnut, almond, hazelnut, pecan, cashew and pistachio) could have a serious reaction if they mistake Moo-Ilennium for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
What can customers do about the recall?
Customers can return the 64-ounce Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough tubs to the store they bought it from for a full refund.
