Tax Day has come and gone, but it’s hard not to wonder where your paycheck is really going, especially if you’re earning what sounds like a solid salary.

Earning six figures is a major financial milestone. But Uncle Sam still has to take his cut. Since Texas doesn’t have income tax, that cut is lower than other states. A new study by GOBankingRates calculated just how much money workers in each state would need to make to take home $100,000 after taxes as of 2025.

Here’s how much Texans would need to earn.

How much do I need to make to take home six figures in Texas?

To walk away with $100K in your bank account after taxes, you’ll need to earn at least $130,999 in Texas.

That’s because even though Texas doesn’t collect income tax, you’re still on the hook for federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and any other state or local taxes.

GOBankingRates researchers looked at federal and state income taxes and used an in-house calculator for a person filing taxes as a single person using the standard deduction. They also factored in federal taxes, Social Security and Medicare and any other state taxes to crunch the numbers. Their study found Texas has a tax burden of 23.7%.

Texas is one of nine states with no state income tax, which keeps it in a better spot than most. Other states with the same advantage include Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming.

How do other states stack up in the study?

Texans have it pretty good compared to other states.

In Oregon, the most expensive state to net $100K, you’d need to earn $148,309.

Maryland, Hawaii, California, and Minnesota weren’t far behind, with salaries ranging from $143,539 to $148,309 just to bring home that same amount.

So while Texas isn’t tax-free, your wage goes further here than in many other places.
