A 61-year-old Denison resident has been identified as the man found dead last weekend at the Rednecks with Paychecks Off-Road event in Montague County.

Authorities identified him as Rickey Doty, according to KFDX-TV in Wichita Falls

An investigation by deputies with the Montague County Sheriff’s Office continued on Thursday, and a ruling on Doty’s death is pending an autopsy.

Doty’s body was found at the bottom of a steep hill at the Rednecks with Paychecks Off-Road annual Fall Mudcrawl event near Saint Jo. Saint Jo is about 88 miles north of Fort Worth.

Montague County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jack Lawson told KDFX-TV that Doty suffered a head injury.

Rednecks with Paychecks Off-Road is at Farm Road 3206 near Saint Jo in Montague County. The facility features mud pits, canyons, creek beds and rock courses for off-road vehicles, according to its website.

Doty was reportedly riding his side-by-side utility task vehicle (UTV) before his body was found Saturday evening.

Lawson told KFDX-TV that another person who was in the UTV left to get help. Lawson said Doty was found without a helmet on.

The last reported death at one of the popular gatherings was in 2021, when a 23-year-old McKinney man drowned after his truck sank in a pond, KFDX reported.

Onlookers reported Ian Miller drove through a mudpit, over an embankment and into the pond, the TV station reported. Bystanders were unable to save him.

In 2019, an Oklahoma man died from injuries he suffered in a head-on collision at a Rednecks with Paychecks Off-Road event.

The victim, Steven Fairbairn, 25, of Duncan, Oklahoma, died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

Fairbairn and a friend were in an ATV on their way to a restroom when a pickup collided with them, authorities said.

Fairbairn’s friend suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The pickup driver was not injured.

WFAA-TV reported that Fairbairn, who was originally from England, was attending his second Rednecks event in as many years.

His fiancee, Abbey Green, told WFAA that Fairbairn had proposed to her two weeks previously with a ring that he bought in England while shopping with his mother.
