Two children under the age of five were killed in a three-vehicle wreck southwest of Fort Worth on Monday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck happened in Erath County north of Morgan Mill on U.S. 281 North near County Road 466.

The DPS said a GMC Acadia SUV driven by Carrie Sackett, 33, of Stephenville, was heading north on U.S. 281 and stopped to make a left turn onto County Road 466.

A Dodge truck was also heading north on U.S. 281 following the Acadia. The driver of the Dodge, 33-year-old Alyssa Litwin of Stephenville, didn’t notice the Acadia slowing down and hit the Acadia in the back, sending the Acadia into the southbound lane.

A Chevrolet truck driven by Braylen Fain, 17, of Ropesville, headed south on U.S. 281 approaching County Road 466 hit the Acadia on the right passenger side.

Two children — 5-year-old and 9-month-old girls — were both in the GMC Acadia and died in the wreck, Staff Sgt. Dub Gillum said.

Sackett was flown in critical but stable condition to Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. Fain was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville for treatment. Litwin was treated for minor injuries.

Gillum said the crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
