Texas Senator Ted Cruz: ‘Red tsunami’ is coming and Tarrant County is leading the way
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Monday that a “revival” is coming and Tarrant County voters would lead the way.
Cruz, speaking at a campaign event at Shannon Brewery in Keller, blamed two years of Democratic Party rule in Congress for rising inflation and an increase in violent crime.
“Tarrant County will be leading Texas and be leading the nation in showing the revolutionary concept that freedom works,” Cruz said.
Cruz spoke in support of Republican county judge candidate Tim O’Hare and county district attorney candidate Phil Sorrells. Cruz told the roughly 100 people in attendance that O’Hare would be the strongest principled conservative in the country leading a major metropolitan area. O’Hare faces Democrat Deborah Peoples on Nov. 8.
He said Sorrells will protect the county from violent criminals. Sorrells, who spoke ahead of Cruz, gave the example of being held up at gunpoint. He argued at Democratic district attorney would charge the assailant with a misdemeanor instead of a felony. He faces former assistant district attorney Tiffany Burks.
Democratic party chair Dr. Allison Campolo responded in a text that her party has passed laws at the federal level that have kept inflation in the United State below that of other developed nations.
“As for violent crime, we’ve had one party rule throughout Texas for a generation so, I think Texans also know which party is responsible for rising crime,” she wrote.
Cruz said Tarrant County would lead the nation in what he called a “red tsunami,” sweeping Republicans into majorities in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
He noted the recent special election victory by Rep. Mayra Flores in Texas’ 34th congressional district in the Rio Grande Valley.
“We’re going to have the entirety of south Texas represented by three Republicans, all three of whom are Latina,” Cruz said.
He argued Democratic policies don’t make sense. He referenced the evolving science on mask mandates that led to confusion about when and where they should be worn.
Democratic party candidates’ values are in line with Tarrant County voters, Campolo wrote, adding that voters aren’t interested in, “the hatefulness and division of the MAGA Republicans like Cruz.”
Cruz summed up his speech by framing the election as a defense of free enterprise, oil and gas, parents, children, the constitution and the country, saying to increasingly louder applause that all these concepts were worth defending.
