Former Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief has endorsed Republican Tarrant County judge candidate Tim O’Hare.

O’Hare, a Republican from Southlake, is challenging Democrat Deborah Peoples of Fort Worth. O’Hare announced Moncrief’s endorsement in a social media post on Tuesday.

Moncrief served as mayor from 2003 to 2011. He was the last Democrat to serve as county judge in Tarrant County and served in the Texas House and Senate as a Democrat.

“Mike is just a wonderful man, a gentle person and a true servant leader, and it has been an honor to get to know him, and I’m very grateful for his support,” O’Hare told the Star-Telegram.

The Star-Telegram left a request for comment with Moncrief’s office. Moncrief has also endorsed Phil Sorrells, a Republican, for Tarrant County District Attorney. Sorrells is running against Democrat Tiffany Burks.

O’Hare on Tuesday additionally announced the endorsement of former County Judge Roy English, who served as Tarrant’s first Republican county judge.

“Tim O’Hare is a proven leader,” English said in a statement shared by O’Hare on Twitter. “He has the intelligence, training to be an excellent County Judge. We need him now!”

O’Hare, a personal injury attorney, previously served as Tarrant County Republican Party chair and Farmers Branch mayor. He co-founded the Southlake Families PAC.

Peoples was the Tarrant County Democratic Party chair for eight years and is a former AT&T executive. Her endorsements include Steve Murrin, a Fort Worth Republican known as “Mayor of the Stockyards.”
