Look at these Halloween costumes from Japan that are so ‘mundane’ they’re brilliant
Sometimes the most creative Halloween costumes are right in front of you. Instead of using Halloween to dress up like something you don’t see every day, these people in Japan dressed up like something you might see every day.
The trend is called “Mundane Halloween,” historian Nick Kapur explained in a tweet. The website Daily Portal Z created the everyday-inspired contest in Japan in 2014, and it has continued annually since, Otaku USA Magazine reported.
The goal? Dress like something ordinary, Johnny Suputama explained on Twitter.
Here are a few of this year’s mundane Halloween costumes, shared on Daily Portal Z’s Twitter feed.
One person dressed as someone who shook a carbonated drink too much. Another dressed like someone who tried — and failed — to cut their bangs by themself.
One person came dressed as a tourist who can’t find a trash can. Another person’s costume was someone who uses the toothpaste until the end of the tube.
Another person dressed like a store manager who came to help at the cash register. Someone else dressed like the cashier looking away while a customer puts in their PIN.
Another pair dressed like people who accidentally show up in the same outfit and feel awkward about it. Someone else dressed like a dad off work.
Numerous other contestants are featured on Daily Portal Z’s Twitter feed.
