Man waiting for takeout buys lottery ticket and wins big. ‘Scene from a movie’
A man bought a pair of lottery tickets while waiting for a takeout order and ended up with a prize that left him stunned, Maryland Lottery officials said.
The man, from Clarksburg, bought two Ice scratch-off tickets for $20 total and won $100,000, lottery officials said in a May 2 news release.
“I never thought I’d see the day where I held a winning Lottery ticket worth that much — it felt like a scene from a movie,” the man said in the release.
He bought the tickets at Bill’s Wine and Liquor in Hyattsville, lottery officials said.
He went into the store while waiting for his takeout order, and he was enticed by the Ice game’s design, lottery officials said.
Of the two tickets, the first didn’t yield winnings, but the second brought the windfall, according to lottery officials.
The man, who could hardly believe it, “scanned the ticket multiple times just to be sure. Each scan confirmed he won $100,000,” lottery officials said.
The man said he’ll save and pay off bills with his prize money, according to lottery officials.
Clarksburg is about a 46-mile drive west from Baltimore.
