A retired U.S. Department of Agriculture worker decided to buy a Powerball ticket while out grocery shopping in Maryland, and it paid off big time, lottery officials said.

She bought her ticket at a Walmart, and “knew that one of her lines had 15 as the Powerball number, so when she learned that a 15 was drawn for the Powerball, she quickly checked her ticket,” the Maryland Lottery said in an April 29 news release.

She had matched four white balls and the Powerball, which would normally be a $50,000 prize, officials said.

But the lucky Wicomico County player had added the Power Play option when she bought the ticket, which doubled her winnings for a $100,000 total prize, officials said.

“Soon after her big discovery, she shared the news with her son,” officials said. “After donating to her local church, the retired USDA worker plans to use her winnings to do some home remodeling and possibly take a vacation.”

Wicomico County is about a 115-mile drive southeast of Baltimore.
