Retailer’s reaction tells lottery player he won big prize. ‘His face went blank’
A Maryland lottery player thought he won $150 from a lottery game but then realized it was much more when he saw the retailer’s reaction, lottery officials said.
“The retailer started screaming and congratulating me,” the man told Maryland Lottery officials. “His face went blank. I didn’t know if I was in trouble or if I should be celebrating.”
The lucky lottery player won a top prize worth $150,000 in the More Money scratch-off game which he purchased April 1, lottery officials said in an April 29 news release.
“The way he reacted even made me think it was a prank!” the winner told lottery officials when he claimed his prize.
He told the lottery he plans to use his winnings to get a new car and save the remainder. On his way out, he joked that lottery officials should remember his face as he was “already dreaming of another big win,” lottery officials said.
The winning ticket was bought for $10 at a gas station in Mechanicsville, about a 40-mile drive southeast from Washington, D.C., according to the lottery.
The More Money game started in March and the odds of winning are 1 in 3.5, lottery officials said. Four top prizes remain.
