Man buys four Maryland lottery tickets and sets them aside. Then he looks again
A Maryland lottery player scored a jackpot prize from a ticket he bought for $5 and almost overlooked, lottery officials said.
The lucky player purchased four Fast Play tickets on April 26 and set them aside, the Maryland Lottery said in an April 30 news release. It wasn’t until he was filling out the playslip for another game that day that he realized his good fortune.
“I saw that I matched the ‘7’ to the winning numbers, but didn’t pay close attention to the prize,” the man told lottery officials. “Then I looked again and said, ‘wait a minute.’”
The ticket on the very top of the pile showed a top prize in the Game of Life worth $75,000, according to the lottery.
“Even though the message said ‘Congratulations,’ I still didn’t believe it,” the man said about when he scanned the ticket with his phone, per the release.
He said after showing the ticket to the retailers, he called his wife to share his exciting news.
He plans to put his winnings toward a vacation and to buy some property, according to the release.
The winning ticket came from a convenience store in Indian Head, about a 30-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C., according to lottery officials.
The odds of winning in the Game of Life are 1 in 4.07, according to lottery officials. Eight top prizes remain for the game which began in July.
