Tiny dog reunited with family after ‘heart-pounding rescue’ from busy CA interstate
A small pup is now safely reunited with his family after going on a less-than-pleasant adventure that included many speeding cars.
Henry, a brave and skittish Chihuahua, managed to end up on one of the busiest highways in Southern California, the San Diego Humane Society said in a Feb. 13 Facebook post. But thankfully, the ending was a happy one.
“Reunited at last! After a heart-pounding rescue that stopped traffic for miles on Interstate 5, Henry the Chihuahua is safe, sound and back with his family,” the shelter said in the post.
“Henry slipped away while his family was staying at a friend’s place and ended up on a terrifying journey down the freeway. He ran for miles, with multiple cars pulling over to help. When he was finally contained, CHP officers called our Humane Law Enforcement team to take Henry into our care.”
While Henry was out reenacting MarioKart on the I-5, his family was on the hunt, trying to track down their beloved dog.
“Meanwhile, Henry’s family was frantically searching for their missing pet! His mom, Rachel, even came to our San Diego Campus after hours hoping to find him,” the shelter said. “They could finally breathe a sigh of relief when we confirmed that Henry was safe at our shelter. We offered to neuter the 2-year-old pup before sending him home and provided him with a new ID tag and some cozy jackets to keep him warm during this rainy weather.”
Finally, the family was able to reach their unharmed Henry.
“Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for — his reunion with his family,” the shelter said. “The wiggly pup and his people were over the moon to see each other.”
