2 cats were struggling at shelter and no one knew why. Then staff looked at their past
Two cats who were struggling at a New York shelter are now sleeping a bit more comfortably at night thanks to an inquisitive staff.
Corazon and Cuchito appeared to be out of their element since arriving at the Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, the shelter said in a Facebook post. But staff didn’t understand why they were struggling.
“Our staff were trying all of the typical ways to provide comfort and enrichment for them, but nothing seemed to work. What else could we do?” the shelter said in a Sept. 11 post.
Then, staff decided to do a little digging.
“After learning that these boys came from a Spanish-speaking household, we began speaking Spanish and playing Spanish music for them in hopes of helping to make them feel more ‘at home,’” the post continued.
“It worked! They seemed to slowly let their guards down. Now, the minute the music starts, they will begin giving soft blinks and eventually relax.”
According to their profiles, both cats appreciate “a peaceful environment filled with cozy nooks for napping, such as soft blankets or boxes.”
