A dog who managed to defy the odds is now ready for a new chapter in his life, a Pennsylvania shelter says.

Soli was discovered abandoned in deplorable conditions and holding on by a thread, the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia said in a Facebook post. The Siberian husky mix has sparkling crystal eyes and a wide smile today, but a year ago, it was a different story.

“Just over a year ago, Soli’s journey began in darkness. Left to fend for himself in a backyard without food, water, or shelter, Soli was seemingly defeated,” the shelter said in a Sept. 6 post.

“He was emaciated and bearing deep wounds on his ears from fly strike, but his life would forever change the moment our Animal Law Enforcement team walked him through our doors. The scars he bore told a story of hardship, but within those bright blue eyes we saw a fighting spirit.”

Soli, who is about 4 years old, proved that she wasn’t a quitter and continued to heal over the course of the year.

“With each day that passed, Soli grew stronger and healed both his physical and emotional wounds. But now, one year later, he is still searching for a forever home,” the post said. “With each day that passed, Soli grew stronger and healed both his physical and emotional wounds. But now, one year later, he is still searching for a forever home.”

According to his pet profile, Soli is a playful pup boundless in his will to have fun.

“Soli’s energy is contagious, often filling the room with an undeniable zest for life, after not having the best start to his. He’s independent, but also loves engaging in playful activities with anyone who’s willing,” his profile says. “He enjoys exploring his surroundings and is always up for a new adventure. Soli’s playful demeanor and endless energy make him a perfect companion for those with an active lifestyle.”
