A sweetheart of a cat is getting some attention online after she experienced one of the hardest things a pet can go through — being abandoned by the only family she’s ever known, an Indiana shelter said.

Stormy, a tabby with wide hazel eyes and a curious expression, landed at the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers, after she was left behind by her family. And in the year since, she’s been dealing with some health concerns

“Stormy’s heart has been broken, and now she’s searching for a loving home to mend it. After spending nearly a decade with her owner, she was left behind when they moved to another country, leaving her confused and stressed,” the shelter said in a Sept. 7 Facebook post.

“Despite everything, this resilient 10-year-old tabby has fought through it all – shedding pounds, managing diabetes, and learning to trust again. Now, she’s ready to find the forever home she so desperately deserves.”

According to her pet profile, Stormy has been at the shelter since September 2023 and, despite her name, she’s is anything but cloudy or “gloomy.”

“Don’t let the name fool you; I’m neither gloomy nor unpredictable. I am 100% friendly and affectionate, and I like to talk--a lot!” her profile says.

“I lived with my owner since I was a kitten, but when I was nearly 8, my owner moved to another country. I had a tumultuous year after that, going from place to place and becoming more stressed. Additionally, I was declawed when I was young and topped the scale at 21.5 pounds, both of which caused me pain. [A soft, fine-grained litter can be easier on my sore tootsies.] Luckily, I met my foster mom, who truly understands cats.”

Stormy’s life changed when she moved in with her foster family, which included getting over her anxious nature that came about after she lost her original owner.

“Now, I love to be petted and cuddle close. She has also helped me reduce my weight to 15.5 pounds with my new diet. Sadly, we found out I was diabetic. I thought my life was over, but it’s not!” her profile detailed.

Her diabetes is now under control and she’s is ready to start a new adventure with a loving family.

Fishers is about a 15-mile drive northeast from downtown Indianapolis.
