Whataburger flasher runs onto freeway, where big-rig hits and kills him, Texas cops say

A man was killed Wednesday night when he was hit and killed by an 18-wheeler after a flashing incident at a Houston Whataburger restaurant, according to police and media reports.

Officers responded to the Whataburger on Houston’s east side for an indecent exposure call around 10 p.m. Wednesday, KTRK reported. The suspect allegedly exposed himself at the restaurant’s drive-thru, according to CBS Austin.

The suspect fled from officers when police first arrived, police said, KHOU reported.

The suspect ran onto the East Freeway, where he was struck by an 18-wheeler and then another vehicle when he reached the eastbound lanes, according to The Houston Chronicle.

The driver of the second vehicle did not stop at the scene, but he later did and placed a phone call about the incident, KTRK reported. Neither driver showed signs they were intoxicated, police told OnScene.tv, according to The Houston Chronicle.

An officer observed the man lay down in the interstate before being struck, KHOU reported. Houston police did not pursue the man once he reached the freeway, which is protocol, authorities told CBS Austin.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to KHOU.

Houston Police shut down the eastbound lanes of the East Freeway for around three hours into Thursday morning, the department wrote on Twitter.
