North Texas Powerball player just misses $531M jackpot — but still wins big
A Powerball ticket sold in Dallas won $1 million, just missing the $531 million jackpot in Wednesday night’s drawing, Texas Lottery officials say.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Sam Beer Grill Grocery, at 3211 S. Hampton Road in Dallas.
The ticket matched all five white ball numbers but missed the Powerball number during the drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Texas Lottery Commission said. The winning numbers were 4, 11, 40, 44 and 50 with a Powerball of 4. The Power Play multiplier was 3x.
No one won Wednesday’s $531 million grand prize, but tickets sold in New Hampshire and Oregon also won $1 million.
More than 780,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $150,000, lottery officials said.
Winning the Powerball jackpot requires matching all five white balls and the red Powerball in the same drawing.
Powerball jackpot rises
The grand prize will rise to an estimated $565 million, with a cash value of about $258.8 million, for the next drawing, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16, the Texas Lottery Commission said.
The Powerball jackpot was last won May 31, when a California player hit the $204.5 million grand prize.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338. Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
