Record-setting rainfall drenches Dallas-Fort Worth area

After more than two months of drought-like conditions, the rains that were commonplace this spring returned on Wednesday.

Yards across North Texas relished the record-setting downpour.

“I’m sure they soaked up all of this rain,” said Steve Fano, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. “And we shattered the record for this day.”

The rain should be replaced with sunshine Thursday, with highs expected to reach the low 90s. There’s a slight chance of rain again on Friday.

Here’s a look at some weather superlatives from the official recording station at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport:

1.93 inches of rain on Wednesday, beating the previous record of 1.05 inches for Sept. 9, set in 1913.

1.38 inches of rain in July and August, which is 2.69 inches below normal.

38.89 inches of rain this year, which is 13.93 inches above normal.

15 days with temperatures of at least 100 degrees this year, including Sunday (100) and Monday (101), which is the same as 2014.

18 average number of 100-degree days.
