A driver was killed in a crash on the I-35W service road in Fort Worth early Monday when a vehicle hit a traffic pole, struck a boulder and rolled over, police said.

The vehicle was traveling north in the 5400 block of the North Freeway service road at Meacham Boulevard about 3 a.m. when the driver hit a traffic light pole on the northeast corner of the intersection and continued driving across the grass and sidewalk, Fort Worth police said in a statement.

The driver then hit a large landscape boulder and collided with the base of a streetlight on the east side of the service road, police said.

The vehicle rolled over and stopped on its top in the middle of the service road. The driver was thrown out the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The person who died will be identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office after the next of kin have been notified.
