A man was stabbed to death in Fort Worth on Saturday night during a confrontation involving the victim’s pickup truck, authorities said.

Andres Valdez was stabbed about 10:30 p.m. in the 2400 block Lillian Street and died on a sidewalk, authorities said. Valdez was 54.

A Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office pathologist concluded that Valdez’s death was caused by a stab wound of the chest.

While armed with a knife, Edward Trevino, 39, tried to take Valdez’s pickup, Fort Worth police said.

About 80 minutes after the stabbing, Trevino approached an officer in the 2500 block of NE 28th Street, about 2.5 miles from the killing scene, and said that he had stabbed someone during an altercation, police said.

Homicide detectives believe that the use of deadly force was not justified under the circumstances. Trevino was arrested on suspicion of capital murder.
