Geovani Rocha had his whole life ahead of him and dreamed of starting a landscaping business, according to a GoFundMe organized to cover the teen’s funeral expenses.

The 17-year-old was fatally shot in a road rage incident in south Fort Worth the night of May 23. His family told KDFW-TV that he was on his way to get a late-night snack.

“I know that nothing will be the same anymore,” Estefani Rocha, the victim’s older sister, told KDFW.

The teen had just finished his junior year at Dunbar High School, according to KDFW. He’d even had business cards printed up to promote his lawn care service.

Jose Camargo Madrigal was charged with Rocha’s murder. The 41-year-old is being held in the Tarrant County Jail, and a judge has denied his bond, according to court records.

According to Camargo Madrigal’s arrest warrant affidavit, the shooting took place shortly before 11:40 p.m. Rocha’s younger brother and a friend, who were traveling with the victim but were not injured, told police they’d just gotten into a collision with a Chevrolet Avalanche.

Moments later, the two vehicles stopped for a red light at the intersection of Mansfield Highway and Seminary Drive. Someone in the Avalanche starting shooting into the Chevrolet Silverado that Rocha was riding in, and the 17-year-old was struck in the head.

Investigators found multiple bullet holes in the Silverado’s tailgate and back windshield, the affidavit states. The headrest of the front passenger seat where Rocha was sitting was damaged, and several 9 mm cartridge casings were found near the Mansfield Highway and Seminary Drive intersection.

Officers tracked down the Avalanche using license plate-reading cameras and learned it was registered to Camargo Madrigal. Police stopped the suspect about 7:45 a.m. on May 24 when the vehicle he was a passenger in failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the affidavit.

Camargo Madrigal told detectives he and his family were on the way to buy baby formula when they got into a collision with a pickup on Mansfield Highway. They continued driving north, but later stopped at the intersection of Mansfield Highway and Seminary Drive for a red light.

According to the affidavit, Camargo Madrigal admitted getting out of the Avalanche and firing several shots from a handgun into the back of the pickup. He was initially arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The charge was upgraded to murder after Rocha died at John Peter Smith Hospital the night of May 24.

The GoFundMe for Rocha had raised more than $10,000 toward the $11,000 goal as of Friday afternoon.
