The lineman who was killed Friday in an electrocution incident on East Berry Street has been identified, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ryan Carlos Vargas, 21, was working on power lines near a Shell gas station when he was hit by an electrical arc flash, according to a GoFundMe for his family. He was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where he died of his injuries. A second worker was injured in the accident, authorities said.

Vargas was an only child who stepped up to support his mother at the age of 16 after losing his father, according to the GoFundMe page.

“He was the heart of his home, always putting his family first and making sure his mother was cared for,” family members wrote. “Ryan’s mother is now left without her only child and the main support in her life. The sudden loss has brought not only emotional pain but also financial challenges, as Ryan was the one who helped keep their home running.”
