Resident arrested after shooting man accused of trying to break in Fort Worth home

A resident who shot a man accused of trying to break into his east Fort Worth home has been arrested, police said in a statement.

Fort Worth police officers responded about 3 p.m. Monday to the shooting in the 6000 block of Grayson Street.

Officers determined that a resident with a small caliber gun shot a man who allegedly was attempting to break into the home , police said.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

The resident, 17-year-old Elijha Simonek, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault/bodily injury with a deadly weapon, according to Fort Worth jail records. He was being held in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday with bond set at $50,000.

Police said on Wednesday that they are not releasing further details of the investigation at this time, and the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office will review the case.
