Fort Worth ISD’s Dolores Huerta Elementary School was briefly placed on secure status Thursday after a caller reported suspicious activity in a nearby park, district officials said.

Fort Worth police were notified, and all external school doors were secured while normal activities continued inside, officials said.

A third party told police that students were shooting rifles on a street behind the school, according to an online 911 call record.

Officers canvassed the area around the school and did not find anything, a police spokesperson said. Students and staff stated that no one heard shots fired at or near the school.

After police determined there was no threat to the school, the secure status was lifted, a district spokesperson said.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and the district will continue to follow established safety procedures in partnership with local law enforcement,” the spokesperson said.
