How much does gift wrap cost? We found the cheapest option in Fort Worth

While most people worry about the expenses of the actual gifts, you surely don’t want to give a present to someone “without ribbons, without tags, without packages, boxes, or bags.”

Presents under the tree just aren’t complete without festive wrapping paper, large red bows and crinkling tissue.

While some get their gifts wrapped by Amazon, or a present-wrapping service, most people know the most wallet-friendly way is to wrap gifts at home.

The Star-Telegram team set out to price check wrapping paper, tissue, gift bags and tags at five local retailers and at Amazon.

We found the cheapest gift wrap at Dollar Tree, but got the best deals at Hobby Lobby. Let’s take a look at our numbers in depth.

Methodology

To gather the data, our team shopped wrapping paper, gift bags of all sizes, bows, and tissue paper.

But before we jump in, there are a few specifics you should know.

• Hobby Lobby has 50 percent off all Christmas retail (including gift wrap) until mid-December.
• Since all stores carried different-sized wrapping paper, we did not try to shop the same size at all stores. Instead, we noted the price and square foot and did the math to figure out the price per square foot.
• Gift bags were also sold very differently across all stores. Some stores carried packs of gift bags or singular bags. So, like the wrapping paper, we did the math to figure out the price per one gift bag.
• Though the Dollar Tree mainly sells items for $1.25, there are items for up to $5. 
• While all stores had multiple options and price points for gift wrap, bags, bows and tissue, we chose the cheapest option.

Lastly, it’s important to know which Fort Worth locations we shopped at.

• Dollar Tree: 367 Carroll St.
• Hobby Lobby: 5020 S Hulen St.
• Michael’s: 359 Carroll St.
• Target: 301 Carroll St.
• Walmart: 2245 Jacksboro Highway

Where to shop for the cheapest gift wrap

Note: This is not a scientific study, but it is a real reflection of items’ prices at various stores in Fort Worth during the week of Nov. 17, 2025.

Out of the six retailers we price checked, we found that Dollar Tree is the best option.

• Bags: $1.50 for small and medium bags. $3 for large bags. 
• Bows: $0.05 per bow ($1.50 for 30 bows). 
• Tissue: $0.03 per piece of tissue ($3 for 100 sheets of tissue). 

Hobby Lobby

• Gift Wrap: $0.04 per square foot ($4.99 for 100 square feet). 
• Bags: $1 for a small bag. $1.24 for medium. $1.99 for large. 
• Bows: $0.20 per bow ($2.49 for a 12 pack of bows). 
• Tissue: $0.04 per piece of tissue ($2.49 for 60 sheets). 

Walmart

• Gift Wrap: $0.03 per square foot ($6.67 for 200 square feet).
• Bags: $1.84 for small. $2.16 for medium. No large bags seen.
• Bows: $0.04 per bow ($0.97 for 20 bows). 
• Tissue: $0.05 per piece of tissue ($1.06 for 20 sheets). 

Michael’s

• Gift Wrap: $0.19 per square foot ($11.99 for 60 square feet). 
• Bags: $0.99 for small. $2.99 for medium. $5.99 for large. 
• Bows: $0.29 per bow ($6.99 for 24 bows). 
• Tissue: $0.16 per piece of tissue ($5.99 for 36 sheets). 

Target

• Gift Wrap: $0.03 per square foot ($7 for 220 square feet). 
• Bags: $1.50 for a small. $3 for large. 
• Bows: $0.12 per bow ($5 for 40 bows). 
• Tissue: $0.03 per piece of tissue ($3 for 90 sheets). 

Amazon

Amazon offers gift wrap for $3.99 per gift. Although, some large items do not always have this option. Compared to our cheapest gift wrap store, Dollar Tree, one roll of 155 square feet gift wrap equals $5, while one gift wrapped by Amazon is just a dollar less at $3.99.
