Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and with it comes the familiar question: What’s actually open in Fort Worth when Monday rolls around?

Some services will take the day off, while others will keep running despite the holiday. For families, that could mean adjusting weekend plans. For anyone needing to handle business with the city, it’s worth double-checking before heading out.

The good news is the city has already mapped out which services will pause and which will continue. Whether you’re thinking about errands, recreation, or public transit, schedules won’t look the same everywhere.

Here’s what to know about what’s open and closed.

Is Fort Worth City Hall open on Labor Day?

No. Most City of Fort Worth offices, including City Hall, will be closed Monday, Sept. 1.

Emergency services, such as police and fire, will still be available, as usual.

Is trash pickup different on Labor Day in Fort Worth?

No changes are planned. Residential garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk collections will run as normal.

The City’s four Drop-Off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center, however, will be closed Sept. 1.

Are post offices open on Labor Day in Fort Worth?

No. U.S. Postal Service offices are closed on Labor Day, and there will be no regular mail delivery.

Is public transportation running in Fort Worth on Labor Day?

Not fully. Trinity Metro buses and Trinity Metro On-Demand paratransit services will run on Sunday schedules.

Trinity Metro TEXRail and On-Demand rideshare will operate on their regular schedules. The Trinity Railway Express (TRE), TRE LINK and CentrePort Circulator will not operate on Sept. 1.

If you need help, customer service representatives will be available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 817-215-8600. The kiosk at Fort Worth Central Station will be closed.

Are Fort Worth libraries open on Labor Day?

No. All library locations will be closed Sept. 1 and will reopen for regular hours on Sept. 2.

Are community centers and recreation sites open on Labor Day?

Community centers, the Haws Athletic Center, and Log Cabin Village will all be closed.

But some outdoor and recreation spots remain open for holiday fun, including city golf courses, McLeland Tennis Center, Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Fort Worth Water Gardens, Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, Marine Park Pool and Forest Park Pool.

Can I pay my Fort Worth water bill on Labor Day?

Yes, but only through the automated system. Residents can make payments, manage accounts, or report emergencies by calling the 24-hour water call center at 817-392-4477.
