A 48-year-old man who barricaded himself inside a home was arrested after hours of negotiation, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies responded to the 11000 block of Dixon Drive, in west Tarrant County near White Settlement, about 7:45 a.m. Monday, June 23, for a domestic disturbance call.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a woman who reported that her husband, Alejandro Montes, was intoxicated and had been violent toward her. She told deputies that their child was still inside the home with her husband, who was refusing to come outside, the release stated.

After negotiating with Montes for about 40 minutes, a small team of deputies were able to enter the home and rescue the child unharmed, the sheriff’s office said.

Montes remained inside the home and continued to refuse commands to exit. Approximately five hours after the standoff began, he surrendered, the release stated.

Montes is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

No one was injured, officials said.
