1 killed in I-30 crash with drunk driver in Fort Worth; suspect arrested: cops
A 31-year-old suspected drunken driver was arrested after a fatal crash in Fort Worth on Sunday morning, June 22, police said.
Officers responded to a crash on Interstate 30 eastbound near Beach Street, police said.
The crash involved two pickups that were traveling eastbound on I-30. The suspect was driving a blue Chevrolet and the victim was driving a silver Toyota, according to the police report.
Investigators determined that the Chevrolet hit the Toyota on the left rear of the truck bed. Both pickups then went down a hill and stopped south of the freeway in the grass, police said.
The victim, who was pronounced dead on the scene by Medstar personnel, will be identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver of the Chevrolet, David Tristan Mayen, told police that both pickups changed lanes at the same time and then spun and landed down the hill, according to the report.
Police said Mayen was arrested after a field sobriety test and he faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter involving a vehicle.
Mayen was taken to the Tarrant County Jail with a bond set at $25,000.
