Memorial Day is more than just a three-day weekend, it’s a solemn day of remembrance for the men and women who died serving in the U.S. military.

The holiday dates back to the years following the Civil War, when Americans began decorating soldiers’ graves in the spring. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was later expanded to honor fallen service members from all American wars after World War I.

Today, many people spend the day with family and friends—often grilling out, traveling, or simply enjoying a slower pace.

But if your celebration includes grabbing some drinks, it’s helpful to know what’s open.

Are liquor stores open on Memorial Day in Texas?

Yes, liquor stores in Texas will be open on Memorial Day.

According to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, liquor stores are only required to close on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. If Christmas or New Year’s falls on a Sunday, they must also close the following Monday.
