TCU to award ‘Landman’ co-creator Taylor Sheridan honorary doctorate degree
“Landman” co-creator Taylor Sheridan has been awarded his second honorary degree from a Texas university this year.
TCU is awarding Sheridan an honorary doctor of letters degree for his “artistic achievements as a writer, director and producer.” The university announced the news in a April 14 message from chancellor Victor Boschini and president Daniel Pullin.
The news comes just a few weeks after Sheridan’s “Landman” filmed season 2 scenes on the Fort Worth campus, which featured students and staff as extras. Some TCU film students also shadowed the show’s crew during filming.
“Mr. Sheridan’s productions on the TCU campus and within our community have resulted in hundreds of Horned Frog students gaining direct experience and job-shadowing opportunities on his sets and learning directly from nationally recognized industry leaders,” the university wrote.
TCU’s Faculty Senate approved the degree at a February meeting and will award Sheridan the document at a later date.
Sheridan awarded second degree this year
The TCU degree will be Sheridan’s second honorary doctorate this year, after Texas State University announced similar plans just a couple months ago.
At a University System Board of Regents meeting in February, Texas State officials approved an honorary doctor of letters degree to Sheridan for his work in the arts. Sheridan was a theatre major at Texas State until he dropped out in 1991.
In addition to his two degrees, Sheridan is also slated to give the commencement speech at the University of Texas at Austin’s spring graduation next month.
More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the May 10 ceremony at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, according to the university.
