It’s spring break season at Fort Worth Zoo, which means traffic. How to plan your visit
It’s spring break season in Fort Worth, which means more traffic near the Fort Worth Zoo.
Historically, spring break at the Fort Worth Zoo has broken attendance records, due to the zoo’s deal for half-off admission on Wednesdays.
During spring break 2013, the zoo counted 26,370 guests. In 2024, the zoo broke that record with 26,433 people, according to a news release. We can expect similar crowds this year as well, especially with the spring weather joining us.
On Wednesday, March 12, the weather will be sunny with a high of 81 before storms and hot, windy weather elevate the potential for fires by the end of the week.
If you plan on packing up the minivan and taking the kids to the zoo, here’s what you should know.
When are Tarrant County schools on spring break?
Tarrant County schools are out for spring break for the next two weeks.
Out of the 20 school districts in Tarrant County, only four (Azle, Aledo, Godley and White Settlement) have spring break from March 10 to March 14.
The remaining schools are out from March 17 until March 21, so the zoo will be busier on those dates — specifically on Wednesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 19.
Spring break traffic
The Fort Worth Police Department recommends taking the following directions to the zoo:
- Traveling south: Take Interstate 35 to West Berry Street to University Drive.
- Traveling north: Take Interstate 30 to University Drive.
The Fort Worth Zoo has also shared a few tips on traffic and parking:
- Plan ahead for extra time spent on parking and traffic.
- The zoo is busiest around lunchtime, so plan to go before or after that.
- Fort Worth police officers will be onsite to help direct traffic.
- Trinity Metro On-Demand offers $4 round trip fares to the zoo on spring break.
Parking is $5 per vehicle, which will be paid at the parking entrance in front of the zoo’s only main entrance at 1989 Colonial Parkway.
The Fort Worth Zoo is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
