Storms, fire danger in the mix for Fort Worth. Here’s a look at the weekly forecast
North Texas will deal with storms and fire danger this week.
Much of North and Central Texas will see elevated to critical fire threats from Tuesday, March 11, through Friday, March 14, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Low relative humidity and gusty winds are behind the fire threat, with the greatest concern Friday as wind gusts up to 50 mph are likely.
An elevated fire threat will be along and west of the Interstate 35 corridor Tuesday through Thursday, March 13. A critical fire threat will be along and west of the I-35 corridor on Friday afternoon, according to the NWS.
Tips to prevent wildfires
The NWS recommends the following to prevent wildfires amid the fire threat this week:
- Do not burn unnecessarily or leave a fire unattended.
- Secure tow chains to avoid dragging and causing sparks.
- Never toss lit cigarettes on the ground.
- Contact local law enforcement and the fire department if you see smoke or fire.
Storm potential this week
By Wednesday, a mid-week storm system will bring a front to the Metroplex.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of the front Wednesday afternoon, according to the NWS. A few strong to severe thunderstorms could produce large hail and damaging winds.
The greatest chance of rain Wednesday will be east of I-35.
