A Movie Tavern is closing in this North Texas city. Here’s when final showings are
A North Texas movie theater is closing its doors after more than 21 years of business.
Movie Tavern Bedford announced late Sunday that it’s closing for good at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. The 10-screen movie theater is located at 2204 Airport Freeway.
In a lengthy Facebook post, the theater’s workers thanked customers for stopping by over the years, including those who bought popcorn curbside during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You’ve welcomed us into your lives, and for that, we are eternally grateful,” the post said. “Each visit, each ticket, each bucket of popcorn—it meant more than you could know. In an ever-evolving world, we’ve tried our best to remain a place of escape, wonder, and connection.”
Nearly 200 comments have been left on the theater’s post, with many asking about the reason for the closure.
The theater responded to a few comments with the same message, saying that its parent company Marcus Theatres routinely reviews locations to evaluate financial performance and viability.
“They have determined that it is the best interest of the company to stop operations at the Bedford location,” the theater wrote back to a commenter.
The theater first opened in November 2003 as “Movie Tavern at Central Park” at 2404 Airport Freeway.
At time of opening, the 8-screen Bedford theater was one of around 40 theaters nationwide with in-theater dining, according to previous Star-Telegram reporting. The Bedford location was the third Movie Tavern in the area, along with the now-both-defunct Ridgmar Movie Tavern in Fort Worth and Green Oaks Movie Tavern in Arlington.
In spring 2016, the Bedford theater relocated to its current location at 2204 Airport Freeway.
With Bedford closing its doors, only three Movie Tavern locations remain in North Texas.
- Fort Worth- 4920 S. Hulen St.
- Fort Worth- 2872 Crockett St.
- Denton- 916 W. University Drive
“Wolf Man,” “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” “One of Them Days” and “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” will be among the last films screened at the Bedford theater.
“Thank you for every moment, every smile, and every memory,” Movie Tavern Bedford wrote. “It has been an honor to share this space with you. Until we meet again, whether at another Movie Tavern or in the movies we hold dear.”
