A fictional show about a Mexican cartel filmed scenes in downtown Fort Worth on Thursday.

“Surviving the Cartel” is described as a survival story from three different character perspectives. The first season premiered in 2022 and is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

Thursday’s shoot was the second day of production on season two, which also plans to film scenes in Dallas, McAllen and Mexico City.

“When you talk about cartels, people think it’s just about violence,” series creator Ely Bams told the Star-Telegram on set. “This show’s not about that, it’s about survival.”

Filming took place in an empty office on the eighth floor of the downtown building at 307 W. 7th St., across the street from the Fort Worth Club.

Without going into spoilers, Bams said the scenes were about a DEA agent and an El Paso detective butting heads about the cartel. Shouting from actors Monica Mauro and Scot Hartman could be heard on set, along with a slammed door or two.

Thursday’s shoot was not the last time the show will be in Fort Worth. Production will return in late February to film scenes of a politician running for the Texas Senate, who is married to the granddaughter of someone in the cartel.

“We’ll shoot the voting scene where he’s setting up, so his campaign headquarters and his speech and stuff like that,” Bams said.

“Surviving the Cartel” season two will release in July on Prime Video.
