A driver who’d been involved in an crash early Tuesday, Nov. 12, apparently left their vehicle and jumped off an overpass into the nearby Trinity River, Fort Worth police said.

Officers were dispatched to a major accident at Texas 121 and North Sylvania Avenue around 5 a.m., according to the 911 call sheet. A sport utility vehicle was blocking traffic in the eastbound lanes of State Highway 121, the 911 caller said, and other vehicles hit the SUV.

One person received minor injuries in the accident, according to MedStar.

According to police, it appears one of the drivers involved in the accident left their vehicle and entered the nearby river. Nearly 30 units responded to the scene to help secure the area and talk the driver out of the water.

The driver was out of the water by 6:30 a.m., Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported. All lanes of Texas 121 were able to reopen by 7 a.m.

It’s not clear what motivated the driver to get in the water.
