Watch: Granbury firefighters rescue toddler from burning apartment early Sunday
Firefighters in Granbury rescued a 2-year-old child from an apartment fire early Sunday morning, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page.
Hood County 911 dispatchers received a report of the fire at around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, officials said.
When firefighters arrived at the scene in the 300 block of Parkwood in Granbury, dispatchers informed crews that a child was trapped in a back bedroom on the second floor, officials said.
Firefighters climbed a ladder to the bedroom window, broke the glass and rescued the child, according to the statement.
Video of the rescue posted to the department’s Facebook page shows the moment the boy was pulled out of the window.
The child’s mother, Phylicia Keen, called the firefighters heroes and said she is grateful for their actions.
“They hit the ground running as soon as they got on scene and didn’t stop until my baby was safe and the fire was out,” Keen said on Sunday.
The mother, who awoke to find her apartment filling with dense smoke, was able to get her 4-year-old son outside but couldn’t reach her 2-year-old son’s room.
Keen’s 2-year-old son, Liam, was transported by helicopter to a Fort Worth hospital and was in good condition after being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning, she said.
A relative has started a GoFundMe to raise money to help the family.
