A pedestrian crossing Interstate-820 was killed early Friday morning after being hit by a vehicle, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

The Texas Department of Transportation Fort Worth announced in a social media post at 1:45 a.m. that all eastbound lanes were closed at Beach Street. Drivers were to expect delays and encouraged to seek an alternate route.

At 1 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to the 3900 block of Northeast Loop 820 eastbound in response to a major accident call.

The accident was a result of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway, according to police. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The eastbound lanes were reopened, TxDOT announced at around 3:50 a.m.

The police department’s Traffic Investigation Unit was notified. The accident is under investigation.
