One person was killed after crashing into another vehicle in Arlington early Wednesday morning, the Arlington Police Department said in a news release.

At around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to the 2100 block of West Interstate 20 about an accident involving two vehicles.

When officers arrived at the scene, there was a 2006 Nissan Murano “wrapped around a light pole” with a person trapped inside of the car , the release said.

The Nissan Murano was traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-20 when the driver tried to pass a second vehicle, a 2005 Ford Explorer, according to the preliminary investigation. The driver of the Nissan clipped the Ford, lost control, and hit a guardrail, stopping at a light pole.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene.

Investigators believe the Nissan was traveling at a high rate of speed, causing the accident.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
