Fort Worth police investigate crash of car that caught fire; driver in critical condition

Fort Worth police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that caused the car to burst into flames Wednesday evening.

At about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 5700 block of the South Freeway service road.

The Fort Worth Fire Department and MedStar also responded to the accident.

The car was traveling south in the 5700 block of the service road when it veered from the roadway, entered the median, hit a bridge support and burst into flames, police said in a news release.

The driver was taken out of the vehicle by fire crews and was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth in critical condition before being stabilized and transferred to Parkland Hospital by helicopter.

The identity of the driver was not released by police.

Traffic Investigation Unit detectives will conduct the on-scene investigation of the accident.
