Fort Worth child shot and critically wounded after finding loaded gun, authorities say

A child was in critical condition Friday afternoon after being shot in a Fort Worth apartment, Fort Worth police said.

No other injuries were reported.

The shooting occurred just after 1:30 p.m. in the 6100 block of Sparrow Wood Lane at The Wyndham Pointe Apartments.

The child, who Fort Worth police say is under 5 years old, found a loaded gun and was shot.

Fort Worth police are still investigating whether the boy shot himself or was shot by someone else in the apartment.

A person who called 911 said a “child got shot when they grabbed a gun,” according to a police call log.

The boy was awake at the time he was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center.

The child was in critical condition, according to a MedStar spokesman.

Fort Worth police did not release any other information, such as who owned the gun or where the child found it.
