Arlington police say 3-year-old was accidentally shot, killed by adult cleaning gun
An Arlington police investigation has determined a shooting that killed a 3-year-old boy Monday occurred when an adult was cleaning a gun inside a home, police said.
The gun went off in an apparent accident, shooting the child in the head and injuring the adult, police said. The adult, a relative whose exact relationship to the child has not been released, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No charges have been filed and the case will be handed over to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, Arlington police spokesperson Jesse Minton said Tuesday.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the boy as Thomas Maybery.
Arlington police responded to the shooting call in the 4100 block of Maple Springs Drive at 12:22 p.m. Monday, according to a press release.
First responders tried to save the boy’s life on the scene, but he was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
