Man killed in single-vehicle crash on Loop 820 in Fort Worth, police say

A man was killed in west Fort Worth on Tuesday when his car slammed into a metal light pole and a bridge support pillar, authorities said.

Toby Alan Phillips, 31, of Joshua, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on West Loop 820 southbound at Team Ranch Road, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. His cause of death was listed as blunt-force injuries.

Officers responded to the accident scene around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and determined the driver had crashed into the pole and pillar, police said in an email. The department believes speed might have played a role in the fatal accident.

Investigators are investigating what led to the crash.
