Passenger identified in fatal Fort Worth ravine crash

The body of man found in a wrecked car last week in Fort Worth has been identified as Micah Foster of Azle, according to authorities.

Foster, 33, was a passenger in a black Honda that crashed into a ravine in the 6000 block of West Loop 820 in Fort Worth, according to Fort Worth police and the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Wednesday.

Foster, and the driver of the car, a Pelican Bay man who was critically injured, were found in the damaged car by a passing motorist on May 26 after being there for several days.

Fort Worth police believe no one had reported the wreck because it could not be seen from the highway.

Foster died from blunt-force injuries and his death was ruled an accident.

By chance, a passing motorist stopped near the wreck.

Gene Rains of Whitney told the Star-Telegram last week that “God put me there,” because there was no reason for him to have stopped.

But his grandson needed to go to the bathroom and Rains stopped on the side of the highway.

As he lifted his grandson up, Rains saw the wreckage of a black Honda in a nearby ravine, and he would later see an arm on the driver’s side of the car.

“I didn’t know if it was a fresh wreck or if someone was living in that car,” Rains said. “I didn’t yell out or anything like that.”

He called 911, and repeatedly called the number to get help. He even dropped his family off, found a police officer in his family’s neighborhood and convinced him to call for help.

Rains returned to the scene to help direct police and firefighters to the scene.

As of Wednesday, the 33-year-old Pelican Bay remained in intensive care at a hospital.
