Family of Fort Worth teen killed while skateboarding says ‘words can’t express grief’
Destany Saenz’s joys could fill a school.
The 15-year-old Dunbar High School honor-roll student loved baking, art and painting, anime, and hanging out with her family and friends, her sister wrote on a GoFundMe fundraiser website.
And, she was enrolled in cosmetology classes.
She also was learning skateboarding.
It was a skateboarding accident on Sunday night that took the life of this Fort Worth teen, who was on her way to a friend’s home to spend the night.
“We have suffered a tremendous loss,” her sister Rhiannon Mata wrote on the GoFundMe account which was established to help the family with funeral expenses.
Members of the community have contributed to help. As of Thursday, the account showed that more than $3,900 had been raised for the teen’s family. The GoFundMe has a goal of $5,000.
Members of the family could not be reached Thursday for comment.
The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday in the 5700 block of Martin Street in southeast Fort Worth.
It was on the same street where Saenz lived, authorities said.
Saenz was in the roadway after she apparently fell off her skateboard when a car traveling westbound hit her, Fort Worth police said.
The driver of a 2003 Dodge Neon did not see her in time, police said.
Saenz was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Words cannot express the extreme grief and shock that this has caused our family,” Mata wrote on the GoFundMe page.
“May God bless you all and please continue to keep us in your prayers for guidance and strength as we lay our most precious angel to rest in God’s loving arms.”
