16-year-old accused in fatal shooting of teen in North Texas back yard

A 16-year-old from Terrell is accused of shooting to death another teen in the back yard of a Terrell home, Terrell police said Thursday.

Two other teens — a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old — are also suspects in the case, but they are expected to be charged with delinquent conduct-robbery, Terrell police said.

The name of the victim and the names of the suspects are not being released by authorities because they are juveniles.

The murder suspect was arrested about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Lovers Lane in Terrell. The town is about 30 miles east of Dallas.

The other two teens were detained earlier in the day.

The 16-year-old faces a charge of delinquent conduct-murder, authorities said.

All three suspects live in Terrell and are enrolled in the Terrell school district, Terrell police said.

The victim was a student at Terrell High School, according to a Terrell school district Facebook post..

Terrell police responded to a shots-fired call shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Greenwood Street in Terrell.

Patrol officers responded to the call in less than a minute and they were directed to the back yard, where they located the victim.

Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
