15-year-old boy found shot to death in back yard of North Texas home
A 15-year-old was found shot to death in the back yard of a Terrell home, authorities said Wednesday.
Relatives have been notified, but Terrell police did not release the name of the boy.
The boy was a student at Terrell High School, according to The Terrell Tribune.
Terrell police responded to a shots fired call shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Greenwood Street in Terrell. The town is about 30 miles east of Dallas.
Patrol officers responded to the call in less than a minute and they were directed to the back yard, where they located the victim.
Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Terrell police and the Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
Terrell police said Wednesday the case was listed as a homicide and it was an “open/active” investigation.
Officials with the Terrell school district released this statement Wednesday morning:
“It is with heavy hearts that we share with you a tragedy within our Tiger Family. One of our beloved Terrell High School students tragically lost their life last night. We are completely devastated and heartbroken by this news, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of this student.
Terrell ISD will do everything in our power to provide comfort and assistance to the family and to our students and teachers as we process our grief together. Virtual counseling appointments will be made available to our students and staff through our Terrell High School Counseling Center (https://bit.ly/3ap12O9) as well as through Region 10 Education Service Center.
